Detour de France
“OUTRAGEOUSLY ENTERTAINING!”
Phil Liggett - The Voice of International Cycling
A film by Dan Jones. The Tour de France is the biggest annual sporting event in the world. In Detour de France, viewers get the chance to witness history in the making as Lance Armstrong sensationally snares his seventh straight victory. A million spectators each day. A media contingent of 5000. This documentary puts you right in the middle. Daniel Jones, a young Melbourne filmmaker, has made a unique documentary that takes viewers on a magical ride behind the scenes of the great race. Through the eyes of three Australians reporting on the 92nd running of Le Grand Boucle – the big loop, viewers will be outrageously entertained. The main character is John Trevorrow, an ex-pro cyclist who has covered 10 tours as a journalist. John is a four time Australian road champion, competed in the 1972 Munich Olympics and raced for four years as a professional in Europe. The second character is Denis Donoghue, a radio journalist who brilliantly narrates the film. Denis, covering his fifth tour, is your “straight guy” who speaks French with an Aussie attitude. He interviews various French characters in the tour, none more famous than five-time Tour De France winner Bernard Hinault and race director Jean-Marie Leblanc. The third character is Bill Schwarzenberg. Bill is what you could call the larrikin of the trip. A bit in your face at times, his official role is “press assistant.” Bill is really on tour to soak up the atmosphere and to make the most of his press pass. This gets him inside the fence and right next to the cream of world cycling. Bill, through his own inimitable style, manages to snag some of the best interviews in the film. The mix between the three is symbiotic. It just works!

2010 Tour de France DVD
Too Late for Lance?
At 38, this summer Lance Armstrong - cancer survivor, multiple Tour winner and one of America’s greatest ever athlete - faces mission impossible: to take the world’s toughest bike race, the Tour de France, for one last time. Third in Paris last year behind Alberto Contador, Armstrong was limited by time-honored loyalties. The Spaniard was a team-mate, and could not be attacked. In 2010, that’s no longer the case. Contador and Armstrong are all-out rivals, and Armstrong wants to be back on top. Again. Armstrong boasts a brand-new team and the Tour’s strongest all-round line-up. Contador is at the peak of his condition but his team is vulnerable. And Armstrong knows that only too well. Can Armstrong outwit the strong but strategically limited Contador? Or is it too late even for Lance? Should both main men falter, rivals a-plenty are itching to take their place. There’s World Champion Cadel Evans, leading American rookie squad BMC. There’s Chicago’s favorite son, gutsy outsider Christian Vande Velde. And there are the brothers Schleck, Frank and Andy: ultra-loyal, deadly in the mountains and - above all - scarily unpredictable. The Tour 2010 will also see sprint king Mark Cavendish battling for top honors in the green jersey competition for American squad HTC-Columbia, whilst NY vet. George Hincapie, doughty as ever, is on the hunt for stage wins. It’ll be his fifteenth Tour. But most of all, July is about what could be Lance’s last ever bid for the yellow jersey. Don’t miss it: a US sports legend may just be about to move on for good.

2009 Giro d'Italia DVD
Denis -The Menace
Powering through the streets of rainsoaked Rome, 2009 Tour of Italy leader Denis Menchov has less than half a mile to ride before he is finally crowned the definitive winner. But then –suddenly, unexpectedly– disaster strikes. How can the Russian recover in time? Or, will he lose at the last possible moment? A magnificent saga of high drama, courage and low cunning, the Tour of Italy 2009 is a three-week two-wheeled battle for victory-and one which truly goes down to the wire. Denis Menchov the tactiturn Russian hero has to face a sometimes unholy alliance of Italian riders, from the fiery 2007 Giro champion Danilo Di Luca to the impulsive, ultra-aggressive Franco Pellizotti to the melancholy, introverted Ivan Basso. All these local stars are determined to topple the Russian giant –by almost any means. As Rome’s dramatic finale looms larger and larger on the horizon, Menchov’s lead drops from minutes to a bare handful of seconds. But that’s not all. The Giro also features the comeback of seven times Tour winner Lance Armstrong, the desperate bid for power by his team-mate Levi Leipheimer and the epic sprint victories by Mark Cavendish –just 24 but already cycling’s hottest property. With backdrops as dramatic and dignified as the soaring Dolomite mountains, the ever-daunting Alps and finishing in the shadow of Rome’s ancient Coliseum, this year’s Tour of Italy was the race’s centenary edition - and it lived up to every expectation. Don’t miss it. Commentary by Phil Liggett & Paul Sherwen.

2010 Paris Roubaix
Two Disc Set!
2010 Paris-Roubaix Making Cycling History! Fabian Cancellera, fresh off his win 7 days earlier at the Tour of Flanders timed his win with Swiss precision as he again dropped Boonen and a host of other greats to win Roubaix with authority. Seeming in top condition and form and brimming with confidence, Cancellera cruised on the cobbles to his second Paris-Roubaix victory in what is beginning to look like a history-making season for the talented Swiss Champion. Cancellara’s victory makes him only the 10th rider in history to win the Flanders-Roubaix double “Cycling has a long, long history. To be number ten, and the way I won it, I am really proud,” he exclaimed, flushed with pride over his second win in one week’s time. Boonen, a three-time Paris-Roubaix winner, was on auto-pilot at the back of the peloton when Cancellera made his decisive move. If Cancellara attacks and I can’t follow him, that’s fair enough. But I’m really angry with the way the other guys rode, said Boonen.” Cancellara’s dominant performance left many of them, including Flecha, resigning themselves to a race for second. It’s all here in the WCP Exclusive DVD. Commentary by Phil Liggett & Paul Sherwen. Approx. 240 min

and Het Nieuwsblad
Two Disc Set!
Het Nieuwsblad 2010 For years he had tried to break through - but to no avail. For more than a decade, Spain¹s top Classics rider Juan Antonio Flecha had fought to clinch a big one-day victory - and failed. Disillusioned, in the winter of 2009 he quits lifelong team Rabobank. Where can he turn now? Het Nieuwsblad 2010 is the story of how rookie British squad Sky claimed 2010¹s first major Classic - but it¹s much more than that. It¹s also the story of how veteran nearly-man Juan Antonio Flecha finally netted his first one-day victory in the most spectacular of fashions, with a long-distance solo move. At the same time, it¹s a tale of a nation of defeated top riders, the Belgians, elbowed aside by Flecha and Sky as the Spaniard stakes his claim in the one-day Classics - arguably the most ruthless and hotly disputed of all sporting arenas. Fast-paced and frantic in the best Belgian Classic tradition, with fiercely tactical battles culminating in Flecha¹s finest hour, Het Nieuwsblad 2010 is a minor epic of two-wheeled racing, and a tale of last-minute sporting redemption. Don¹t miss it! Commentary by Phil Liggett and Paul Sherwen. Approx. 240 min

2010 Tour of Flanders
Two Disc Set!
Taming the Tornado! Switzerland’s Fabian Cancellera is making 2010 his year! The 29-year-old Saxo Bank rider had earlier won Milan-San Remo (2006) and Paris-Roubaix (2008) and was pegged as a pre-race favorite in Flanders along with Belgian strongman and arch rival “Tornado” Tom Boonen. After numerous attacks over the cobbles and climbs of Flanders, the two dropped the peloton behind on the Molenberg climb. Cancellera’s teammates Stuart O’Grady and Matti Breschel set the pace on crucial major climbs. With about 15km left in the grueling contest, Cancellera and Boonen were a full minute ahead of the pack as they neared the top of Kapelmurr ascent. Cancellera hit the gas and dropped Boonen like he was standing still in one of the most explosive performances of his career. Cancellera’s attack rendered both a physical and psychological defeat for Boonen, who would have another chance at Roubaix in 7 days. “When I realized that I’d dropped Boonen, it was like having wings on my feet and I kept it going the whole way,” said the ecstatic Swiss champ afterwards. Boonen finished second and fellow Belgian Philippe Gilbert was third in the 262km race from Brugge to Ninove. Notables Lance Armstrong and David Millar finished 27th and 32nd in the 29-person bunch behind Cancellera. Narrated by Phil Liggett & Paul Sherwen. approx. 240 min
